Afro-Brazilian Contemporary Art
This new edition of Europalia focuses on Brazil. The Centrale Électrique presents on this occasion, Incorporations, an exhibition that paints a portrait of contemporary Afro-Brazilian creation. It shows the all-pervasive presence of spirituality in modern Afro-Brazilian art and the way in which this has moved on from simple folky representation to become a means of affirming religious values. In this context certain groups of artists are working on the links with Africa while other see art as a tool for political emancipation.
